Valuable Experience at Miagao National High School

Hello friends! Welcome back with me, Lia Kamilatun Nikmah, a Sea-Teacher Student Exchange program participant who had the opportunity to teach at Miagao National High School (MNHS) in Iloilo, Philippines. This experience was one of the most rewarding in my life. Not only did I get the chance to share my knowledge, but I also learned a lot about the culture, education, and life in the Philippines. Let's talk about this school that is often known as MNHS!

Getting to Know Miagao National High School

Miagao National High School is a public high school located in Miagao City, Iloilo province, Philippines. The school has a long and rich history and has contributed immensely to educating the younger generation of the Philippines.

Brief History

Miagao National High School was established in 1972. Since then, it has continued to grow and become one of the leading high schools in the Iloilo region.

Education System

The education system in MNHS follows the curriculum set by the Philippine Ministry of Education, otherwise known as DepEd (Department of Education).

DepEd is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for primary and secondary education throughout the country. DepEd has a very important role in improving the quality of education in the Philippines. Some of DepEd's main roles include:

• Curriculum Development: DepEd is in charge of developing a curriculum that is in line with the needs and development of the times. This curriculum serves as a reference for all schools in the Philippines in carrying out teaching and learning activities.
• Teacher Procurement and Training: DepEd is responsible for the procurement and training of qualified teachers. These teachers will be in charge of educating and guiding students in all corners of the Philippines.
• Construction and Maintenance of Educational Facilities: DepEd plays a role in building and maintaining educational facilities, such as school buildings, laboratories, libraries, and sports facilities.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: DepEd supervises and evaluates the quality of education in all schools. The aim is to ensure that all students receive a proper education.

Extracurricular Activities

In addition to academic activities, MNHS students can also participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, such as:
